Advisor of the Month Profile: Emily Johnson
How long have you been with AF?
Since July 2017
Hobbies outside of work:
Spending time at the beach or at a park or wildlife refuge. Birding, gardening. Hanging out with my husband, friends, and cats.
Favorite place to travel? Or any vacations coming up?
So far, I have been to 21 states, Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico. I moved from Tennessee to Florida so that I live where I want to vacation! Now, I stay pretty close to home except for going back to Tennessee to see family. I love going to Alligator Point or to St. George Island for the day or to Cedar Key for a long weekend.
Favorite part about working with students?
I love to see students really enjoying their classes, as well as being personally challenged and pushed to grow. The students create and accomplish great things and it is fun to see them “grow up!”
Quote/creed you live by?
“We are here to awaken from the illusion of our separateness.” – Thich Nhat Hanh
Chosen method of Self-Care?
Taking breaks! Whether getting outside for a for a few minutes or taking a few days to recharge.
Guilty pleasure music/tv show/movie?
My favorite movie is APOCALYPTO. Also, you cannot beat The Princess Bride. As for TV, I’m currently watching Vice Principals and the Righteous Gemstones so apparently, I am a Danny McBride fan. I listen to all types of music; it depends on my mood. Anything from Sturgill Simpson to Ariana Grande. Florida Georgia Line is a guilty pleasure. I also love Kacey Musgraves, Nathaniel Rateliff, Lizzo, Tom Petty, CCR, Van Morrison, Al Green…
Favorite food?
I love Thai, Greek/Mediterranean. Anything fresh with lots of flavor. I could live on sharp white cheddar and garden tomatoes. And pickles!
Thanks for all that you do, Emily, and thanks for always answering my questions about Fine Arts!! You’re the best!! 🙂
